Fibre Technologies to distribute PacketLight storage extension products in the UK

Fibre Technologies has signed an agreement with Israel-based PacketLight Networks to become one of the first UK distributors of its suite of products for storage area network (SAN) connectivity. Working with PacketLight, Fibre Technologies will now be able to offer its customers a reliable and cost-effective solution for backup and data protection, making the most of existing infrastructure to support high-speed storage traffic.

As many global businesses strive to meet new regulations for backup and business continuity, PacketLight's storage extension products are designed to help companies comply with the legislation. This is achieved by edge devices located at the customers premises that can connect local area network (LAN) and SAN islands and change the amount of bandwidth it uses without causing any service disruption.

PacketLight products can be deployed over all three types of network:

  • Wavelength Division Multiplexer (WDM),
  • Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), and
  • Internet Protocol (IP).

and offer different levels of data transfer rates, depending upon storage and recovery requirements. The scalability of the products means that growing companies will not have to replace their data storage equipment as their needs change, allowing them to consider long-term, economical storage options.

Commenting on the deal, Yair Lezer, VP sales worldwide said: "Fibre Technologies' partnership approach and excellent customer service matches our own vision and ethos, making it an ideal partner for us in the UK. We are confident that this approach combined with Fibre Technologies' expertise in both fibre channel and SDH networks will help build a strong distribution channel in the UK."

Phillip Coombes, managing director of Fibre Technologies commented: "Service providers are constantly seeking new services that will empower them to earn more from their existing infrastructure. The PacketLight suite of products will allow us to meet this need and stay one step ahead of our competitors through offering an affordable and viable option for SAN connectivity, disaster recovery and business continuity."

Fibre Technologies will be selling the entire suite of Packet Light products. This includes PL-10 and PL-20, which are ideal for applications that require less bandwidth with a single fibre channel interface and PL-100 which is designed for applications that need several interfaces for connecting both the SAN and LAN over the WAN. Packet Light's products support all protocols including Gbe, Escon and Ficon and us the latest technology standards such as VCAT, LCAS, BB-B and GFP.
