MRV | SFP/GBIC Pluggables

Pluggable interfaces are small, hot-swappable, managed port interface modules that provide physical layer (copper or fibre) signaling for data, voice, storage and video transport networks.

Pluggables started with GBIC (Gigabit Interface Converter) modules, which allowed Gigabit Ethernet devices to provide a generic, modular interface to optical transceivers. This capability allowed optical transceivers of various distances (10km or 80km for example) to be plugged into a switch-card slot without changing the card.

Multimode Fibre-Optic Modules
SFP (Small Form Pluggable) MSA is a specification for a pluggable, hot-swappable optical interface for SONET/SDH, Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and other applications. SFP modules are optical transceivers, multimode (850nm) or single-mode (1310 and 1550nm). MRV supplies these modules in addition to optical transceivers at other wavelengths for use in CWDM (Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing) applications, and a wide variety of copper SFPs for various protocols. Optical SFPs often include Digital Diagnostics (according to SFF-8472) providing a powerful optical management tool.
Multimode & Singlemode GBIC's
GBIC modules are optical transceivers, multimode (850nm) or single-mode (1310nm). MRV supplies these modules in addition to optical transceivers at other wavelengths for use in CWDM (Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing) applications, and a wide variety of copper GBICs for various protocols. MRV provides a wide range of GBIC-based systems for physical network connectivity, including media converters, distance extenders, cross-connects, Ethernet switching and routing equipment, and wave division multiplexing solutions.
XFB Product Line
The XFP (10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable) MSA is a specification for a pluggable, hot-swappable optical interface for 10 Gigabit SONET/SDH, Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and other applications. The MSA Document (not yet public) provides a common specification for systems manufacturers, system integrators and suppliers of pluggable XFP modules.
Supported Protocols for SFP/GBICs
MRV supports a wide variety of protocols using plug-in optics, including virtually any protocol in existence:
Ethernet (10, 100, 1000)
SONET/SDH (OC3/12/48 and STM-1/4/16)
Fibre Channel (1G, 2G) & ESCON, FICON
Digital Video (SDI SMPTE 270Mbps, HDTV)
Copper (RJ-45) or Fibre-Optic (DSC/LC)
Multi-mode or Single-mode
Single Fibre 'Colored'optics for CWDM/DWDM applications
